« FLASH NEWS TWO APRIL 2024

Good day

This is the SECOND of THREE Flash News pages you will receive.  To put them all together would be convenient, but you would be reading until July, and each one has a different, but important focus.

This Flash News is about the Social Security Offset talks in WASHINGTON

If you worked two jobs before retiring - (and who did not?) - and if you had Social Security withheld - (and we all did) - then you should be concerned with this message.  Every person in the state of Maine who had Social Security wihtheld and recieves a retirment check from MainePers is currently loosing money they earned.  The Social Security Offset law takes part of your Social Security away - every month.

Crystal Ward sent along a handout from the Ways and Means Committee. Please read the following. Thank you Crystal.

House Committee on Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08) and Social Security Subcommittee Chairman Drew Ferguson (GA-03) announced today that the Subcommittee on Social Security will hold a hearing to examine Social Security’s Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset, their intended purpose, shortcomings, and alternatives. The hearing will take place on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 3:00 PM in the Sam Johnson Room located in 2020 Rayburn House Office Building.

Most of us will not get to attend this meeting on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 3:00pm.

But we can send testimony.
