My
Badges gives schools and teachers a way to create badges when
students have met proficiencies.
It's actually very cool, and students, parents, and teachers can change the way we educate children.
Badges exist in two different formats or categories
Category I - Teacher Badges - These can be given by the teacher at any time for good work. We tend to think of them as digital stickers. And that idea of getting a sticker for work well done is with us all thanks to our early experiences in schools.
Category 2 - School Proficiency Badges - These are the badges that signify mastery of a proficiency. Every school determines how they are awarded, and they can carry great weight. They do inidate that a student has met the stated proficiency or graduation requirement. We often think that a student should petition for a School Proficiency Badge to his/her advisory who then reviews the work stored in the portfolio and recommends a badge award to the student's support network. Each school will develop its own methods - as it should.
Badges are a built in feature of EdVillage4Me. Badges just perfectly align with proficiencies and e-Portfolios.
The scouts are right - we all work harder when there is a tangible reward.
Think About
This....
"Consequently, we need
to set standards that are challenging but attainable with student effort.
Determining these standards is not always easy given that student cohorts
differ, so administering diagnostic or early assessments can help you
determine the right level for each
cohort."
