Scammers are expected to take in over 2 billion
in 2021. We can thwart their efforts by following these
recommendations.
1. SLOW IT DOWN. Scammers often create a
sense of urgency to bypass your better instincts. Take
your time and
ask questions - do not allow yourself to be rushed.
2. SPOT
CHECK. Do your research and research the details that have been presented
to you. If you
get an unexpected phone call hang up. Look up the bank,
agency or organization and call them.
3. STOP DON'T SEND. No
reputable person or agency will ever demand payment on the spot. Do
not
be conned into purchasing gift cards.

POLITICAL UPDATE
from
Crystal Ward
What would the ballot initiative
change?
Question 1 was designed to STOP the New England Clean
Energy Connect (NECEC), a 145-mile long, high-voltage transmission line
project that would transmit around 1,200 megawatts from hydroelectric
plants in Quebec to electric utilities in Massacchusetts ,Maine and the
New England Power Grid.
A "yes" vote supports this
ballot initiative to:
* prohibit the construction of electric transmission lines defined as high-impact in the Upper Kennebec Region, including the NECEC, YES means you want this project to STOP
* require a two-thirds vote of each state legislative chamber to approve high-impact electric transmission line projects. (require the Legislature to approve all other such projects anywhere in Maine, both retroactively to 2020, and to require the Legislature, retroactively to 2014, to approve by a two-thirds vote such projects using public land) Yes means you want this change in the law
A "no" vote opposes this ballot initiative, thus allowing the NECEC project to continue construction
NO means you want the project to continue and not requiring a two-thirds legislative vote to approve electric transmission line projects defined as high-impact. NO means you do not want this change in the Law
Some are confused because it seems to be a backwards question---- IF you want the project say NO on Q 1. If you do not want the project say YES on Q1

It was voted at the September luncheon to place all donations into our general account. If anyone wants their donation placed in our scholarship account please let me know and I will move your donation into our scholarship fund.
During the past year I only wrote 2 checks. One was for the purchase of backpacks and most of this amount was returned to us via a grant. The second check was for our annual $1,000 scholarship.
